Honouring Resistance: How Women Resist Abuse in Intimate Relationships is an excellent resource for women who have suffered intimate partner abuse, and folks who are supporting them.
It uses the Response-Based Practice approach to violence, oppression and adversity. It gives a victim’s story and then explains all the ways she resisted the abuse. Victims find it validating and empowering when they look at their experience from the framework of how they resisted the abuse, rather than the ‘effects’ the abuse had on them.
When supportive family or friends view the victim’s story through the lens of resistance, rather than the lens of ‘effects,’ they understand her much better and are able to support her more effectively. I guess this would apply to supportive pastors too.

rbpinterior.com is a division of the Centre for Response-Based Practice.
At rbpinterior.com/resources they have things which address domestic abuse from the female victim’s perspective and the child’s perspective. They also have Choosing To Change: A Handbook for men concerned about their abusive behaviours towards those they love. Plus resources to open up healthy conversation about porn.
I’ve updated the 2012 post in which I first wrote about these resources.
