Many people are offering help to the abused. In making sense of the things we have suffered, we don’t want to waste our energy following people-helpers who may lead us astray. In trying to find safety, vindication, healing and justice, we don’t want to waste our time and energy following people-helpers who are actually harming the abused. We don’t want to be enticed by pseudo-advocates who are love-bombing the abused in order to exploit them.
How can you know whether people-helpers will help or harm you? How can you discern whether they will help the survivors you are supporting? My answers to these questions may differ from yours. Your sore-spots, touch-points, and growth-points, will probably differ from mine. We’re all at different stages of gaining clarity and discernment.
To see how I evaluate whether ministries, authors, advocates and organisations are going to harm the abused, read my page Non-Negotiables for Effective and Biblical Abuse Ministry.
