A great quote from our Gems page.
The short path to heresy is not in denying biblical teaching. The short path to heresy is just in affirming part of biblical teaching. Honing in on a verse, honing in on an idea, and trying to let that be the be all and end all of your theology. But the orthodox fathers said no no no, we can’t do that! Scripture can’t function as our supreme authority unless it’s the total message of scripture that’s our authority.” (by Scott Swain, God from God, Light from Light: Retrieving the Doctrine of Eternal Generation (21:12 in the audio))

How does one define “good gift”?
“Normal” – there is no such thing as “normal”, we are not cookie-cutter people – parents choose the gift with their child in mind.
“Evil” parents choose the gift with themselves in mind.
“Normal” parents choose the gift considering what may – or may not – do harm to the child.
“Evil” parents choose the gift considering what may – or may not – do harm to themselves.
“Normal” parents choose the gift most apt to complement their child.
“Evil” parents choose the gift most apt to complement themselves.
How many times does one hear the “good gift” verse?
How many times does the “preacher” assume the gift-giver is “Normal”?
How many times does the “preacher” assume the gift-giver is “Evil”?
Does the “preacher” teach the difference?
Does the “preacher” even know the difference?
