Sat down to the computer this afternoon and just knew it was time to take my identity back. Hitting publish on that post felt huge but, seriously, I’d been away so long, I thought no one would notice.
I was making quiche in the kitchen when the comments came rolling in and choked up over the wilted spinach. Then Barb posted here. Let’s just say, if the quiche is ruined, someone’s taking me out on her next trip stateside :)

I’ve always found your posts immensely readable, funny, poignant, sharp, etc. Don’t know what there isn’t to like about you, your ex must have been blind/non-human! I join the others in congratulating you, and wishing you the best days ahead.

You may be on to something with the non-human part. Folks who no longer empathize with others seem to lose part of their humanity. Seems like these abusers enjoy inflicting pain, can’t relate to or empathize with the pain they cause and so they keep upping the ante to get the reaction they crave.
( And you’re right. I’m pretty dadgum likeable. Going to put that on a t-shirt :) )

Ida Mae, you have set a precedence for all the rest of us. Thank you for your bravery and one day, may we all be able to join you in celebrating freedom, by revealing the “who” of who we really are. I am learning about the fear that causes us to keep everything secret. It’s that life of decades of abuse. So glad you are only two weeks away to your legal freedom.
