Celia Lashlie is a New Zealander whose work on parenting and raising kids is highly recommended by secular professionals, including those who are working in the primary prevention of domestic abuse. She’s coming to speak in Ballarat so I checked out her website. She has written two books that might be of interest to our readers:

Celia Lashlie is very wise and well-respected.It’s well worth reading her books or listening to her. Her advice on raising boys is especially good.
Has anyone read the book about raising boys? I would like to hear a personal review before buying it. I have two boys and I want to give them every chance possible to be good men. Thank you 🙂
It is selling for $50+ on Amazon and all the reviews say that it emphasizes the importance of the father in raising good men. I don’t want to spend that kind of money for a book that doesn’t help single moms. If I could get a review from a DV single mom it would be wonderful.
The book “He’ll be ok: Growing Gorgeous Boys into Good men” is an interesting read, but to be honest I wouldn’t personally spend as much as $50 on it. (I borrowed it from the public library).Celia Lashlie’s background is that she worked as a prison officer for many years.This book is aimed at a general audience and doesn’t address domestic violence in particular. Her concern is more about preventing boys getting into trouble in a general sense(drugs, alcohol,general violence etc).She was a single mother herself, and does consider the difficulties of parenting a son whose father is absent, but only one chapter specifically addresses these problems.It is not a Christian book, and this is reflected by some of the topics she discusses and the language she occasionally uses.Overall, I found the book thought-provoking and challenging .But for specific parenting advice,I think there would be more helpful books available.
