One Day At A Time – poem by a survivor

This poem was sent to us by “Emma”

One Day At A Time:

This too shall pass,
I always say.
I’ve said it now for years.
When I was too ‘weak’ to carry on,
I’d pray this through my tears.
Sweet Jesus, help me carry on!
How long?  I’d ask… how long?
And Jesus whispered in my ear,
“I love you!  Just hang on!”

and as the ashes of the past
disperse along the way,
washed clean by my own tears of loss…
I find new cause to pray….
I feel as though I’ve been through hell,
But God has walked me through,
And though the church did look away,
God has taught me what to do.

“Divorced” I AM!  I carry on.
And God has been my guide.
‘Twas Jesus’ hand that held me firm,
and blessed those tears I cried.

A death I have born witness to,
But where I am in Christ, in death is life,
And where my ‘holy bonds’ have died,
Within me resurrected life!

I am not sorry, no!  Not ashamed!
Point not your finger at me in blame!
“Divorced” I AM!  I carry on!
He loves me still, calls me by Name,

…and I will never be the same.
Praise God! No never, be the same!

  1. Emma-

This poem is good news for any Christian who has suffered, or is suffering. The world, including many closest to us, divorces us when we follow Christ. Like Rahab, the one-time citizen of Jericho, our citizenship has changed and that change only comes through loss which, in the end, will turn out to be no loss at all! Thanks very much.
