Thursday Thought — Sheep don’t wear wolves’ clothing

“Good people never pretend to be evil,
but evil people love to pretend to be good.
Sheep don’t wear wolves’ clothing.”
(Ps. Crippen)

UPDATE Sept 2021: I have come to believe that Jeff Crippen does not practise what he preaches. He vilely persecuted an abuse victim and spiritually abused many other people in the Tillamook congregation. Go here to read the evidence. Jeff has not gone to the people that he spiritually and emotionally abused. He has not apologised to them, let alone asked for their forgiveness.

  1. Are the sheep who trample the grass and foul the water (Eze 34:19) evil or just led by a bad “shepard”? After all we are all like sheep and can be led astray. I’m thinking of people in church who are enablers of the abuser. I think some are actually wolves but some are badly led sheep. I suppose in some ways it doesn’t matter. The wolves will probably continue to be wolves and the badly led sheep will either have their eyes opened or not. If you are abused and the enablers are in your church you need to get away.

    1. Pastor Crippen’s quote is sooo very true.
Wisdomchaser – you are right on, too. I keep being invited to ‘come back in’; these sheep just don’t seem to get it even after I have explained the circumstances. They seem to believe that my presence within the confines of a building will be all that is needed. No, I need a true shepherd being led by the Shepherd of my soul. A shepherd/protector.

    2. Wisdomchaser, There is much danger in being led by a wolf pastor. Such are spiritually blind as Christ said “Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” Matt. 15:14

I agree with you, if your church is led by blind guides and contains others who can’t see the truth, the most spiritually healthy thing to do is leave.

  2. I love this quote. The first time I read it, it was one of those “light bulb” moments regarding my ex as I contemplated his ability to tell me he loved me, only to tell me moments later how much he hated me.

  3. Sometimes darkness would endeavor to clothe even our all-loving and infinitely holy Lord in evil, as when it is claimed that He sovereignly wills the abuse of His precious lambs. Having sold the idea that God is so clothed, they confidently proclaim abuse to be good and holy, and every evil shrouding Good. The True Love that would oppose such evil they call rebellion. Yet darkness cannot succeed in clothing light with itself, nor Evil with Good—nor His Lambs with dead wolves hides. God, our Heavenly Father, will not be mocked.

Even so, it is incumbent upon His Lambs to be ever vigilant.

  4. Well said, Gary W. There is so much wisdom and understanding of the TRUE character of God. I’m only new to this site, having been divorced from my own abusive husband for 5 years now, and this site has been very comforting to me. Thank you so much :)
